Igor Milicic Jr. joined the Virginia basketball program as a late addition to the 2021 recruiting class when he signed in early May. Less than a year later, Milicic has entered the transfer portal.

The forward announced his decision on Instagram.

Milicic played for Orange Academy Ratiopharm of the German Pro B league prior to committing to UVA. He averaged 13.3 points (44.7% shooting from the field including 33.3% from 3), 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 21 games. He also had stints with the Poland National Team and Ratiopharm Ulm in the BBL, Germany’s top basketball league. Coming from overseas, Milicic did not arrive in Charlottesville until late in the summer and thus missed some acclimation time in the preseason months.

Listed at 6’10”, Milicic flashed some wing skills both in social media videos and in the preseason Blue-White game. In a November game against Coppin State, he posted 11 points and in an early December game against Fairleigh Dickinson, he scored 9 points. Overall, however, he saw action in just 16 games for 100 minutes. He shot 36.4% from 3-point range with 8 makes on 22 attempts.

With the transfer portal becoming an increasingly prevalent part of the college basketball offseason, four Virginia players have now entered their name. Carson McCorkle, another reserve that played limited minutes, announced his decision earlier this seek. Walk-ons Malachi Poindexter and Jayden Nixon, a graduate transfer, also have decided to look for other opportunities.

The Cavaliers have four open scholarships with these portal moves, though two of those are currently believed to be going to returning seniors Jayden Gardner and Kihei Clark. Both players have an additional year available due to the COVID year eligibility freeze.
