Virginia Men’s Basketball Schedule Announced; Hoos Open ACC Play At SMU

The Virginia men’s basketball team released its complete schedule on Tuesday as the ACC finalized matchups across the conference. The Cavaliers open conference play on Saturday, Dec. 7 at new league member Southern Methodist. Tipoff is set for 2:15 p.m.

That comes one month after the season opener at the John Paul Jones Arena. As previously announced, UVA begins its campaign with a 7 p.m. contest against Campbell on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The next week features games against Coppin State at home on Monday, Nov. 11 (7 p.m.) and Villanova in Baltimore on Friday, Nov. 15 (TBA). The Hoos then take on Tennessee on Thursday, Nov. 21 (9:30 p.m.) and either Baylor or St. John’s on Friday, Nov. 22 (TBA) in the Baha Mars Hoops Championship in the Bahamas.

Three more non-conference games follow before that ACC opener with SMU. Virginia hosts Manhattan (Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7 p.m.) and Holy Cross (Friday, Nov. 29, TBA) before it travels to Florida (Wednesday, Dec. 4, 7:15 p.m.) for the ACC-SEC Challenge. After playing SMU, the final three non-conference games come against Bethune-Cookman (Thursday, Dec. 12, 7 p.m.), Memphis (Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m.), and American (Sunday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m.) at the JPJ.

That sets the stage for the start of ACC play in full. The Cavaliers face NC State on New Year’s Eve at home in a 12 p.m. tipoff on Tuesday. They also host Louisville on Saturday, Jan. 4 (4 p.m.) before heading west for two games. Those will come against the other ACC newcomers California (Wednesday, Jan. 8, 11 p.m.) and Stanford (Saturday, Jan. 11, TBA). Virginia returns home for a second game against SMU on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. The rest of January presents four games at Louisville (Saturday, Jan. 18, TBA), at home against Boston College (Tuesday, Jan. 21, 7 p.m.) and Notre Dame (Saturday, Jan. 25, TBA), and at Miami (Wednesday, Jan. 29, 7 p.m.).

The start of February features two Saturday-Monday turnarounds for the Hoos. On Saturday, Feb. 1, they host Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. before hitting the road to Pittsburgh on Monday, Feb. 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. After facing Georgia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 8 (5:30 p.m.), UVA deals with its second two-step. Virginia plays at VT on Saturday, Feb. 15 (2 p.m.) before it hosts Duke on Monday, Feb. 17 (8 p.m.). That pair of games is followed by back-to-back games at North Carolina (Saturday, Feb. 22, 4 p.m.) and Wake Forest (Wednesday, Feb. 26, 9 p.m.) to wrap up the month.

Finally, the Wahoos wrap up the schedule in early March with the final three ACC games. They host Clemson on Saturday, March 1 (TBA) and Florida State on Tuesday, March 4 (9 p.m.). Virginia concludes the regular season at Syracuse on Saturday, March 8 (8 p.m.). The ACC Tournament in Charlotte begins on Tuesday, March 11 with the top 15 teams earning their seeding based on their finish in the conference standings.

Virginia plays 13 games on ESPN’s networks, including the matchups against Duke, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh on ESPN. The Hoos play eight times on the ACC Network with two games on both the CBS Sports Network and The CW.

Fans get their first chance to see this year’s team on Saturday, Oct. 5. The annual Blue-White Scrimmages have been scheduled for 6 p.m. at the John Paul Jones Arena following the football team’s home game against Boston College at noon.
