TheSabre.com Fan Friday: Excitement Growing For Virginia Basketball

If Virginia basketball fans weren’t already excited (hint, they were!), this week likely fired up the enthusiasm.

Not only is it a bye week for the football team, but the ACC announced the conference schedules for all teams Tuesday. Plus, with the kickoff time finally set for the upcoming Boston College game, UVA announced the plan for the annual Blue-White Scrimmages. The BC football game is set for noon with the hoops action at John Paul Jones Arena beginning at 6 p.m.

Here is the planned Blue-White format as announced by Virginia:

  • 5 p.m. – Doors open
  • 6 p.m. – Women’s Scrimmage
  • 6:45 p.m. – 3-point Contest
  • 7 p.m. – Men’s Scrimmage

As has been the case in previous years, admission and parking are free. Seating is general admission and first come, first served. UVA did note that for fans planning to attend both football and basketball, you are “encouraged to park in the North Grounds parking lots surrounding JPJ Arena and utilize the free shuttle service to and from Scott Stadium.”

With so many new faces on the roster for Tony Bennett – seven players joined either from the transfer portal or the high school ranks – this represents the first opportunity to see the new guys in action. The new players are Jalen Warley (Florida State transfer), Elijah Saunders (San Diego State transfer), Jacob Cofie (true freshman), Dai Dai Ames (Kansas State transfer), Ishan Sharma (true freshman), TJ Power (Duke transfer), and Carter Lang (Vanderbilt transfer).

How are these new Hoos acclimating to the program as practiced is now under way? There have been some short videos on social media that have fans talking. Here is the link to UVA’s official Twitter to track down videos like this one from the first day of practice:
