Virginia Goes Back To Florida For RJ Harvey Commitment

The Virginia football program continued its recent recruiting success in Florida with a commitment from Edgewater High School quarterback Robert Harvey Jr. (RJ) on Monday. The 2019 prospect became the 18th member of the Cavaliers’ recruiting class and the sixth commitment from the Sunshine State.

Harvey announced his choice through a Twitter post. He also had offers from North Carolina, Syracuse, and Georgia Tech among others. UVA offered Harvey (check out his recruiting card) on May 17.

Harvey joined Lake Gibson offensive lineman Zachary Teter, Sandalwood athlete Antonio Clary, Gulliver Prep defensive end/linebacker D’Sean Perry, Dunbar cornerback Major Williams, and Dunbar athlete Seneca Milledge as commitments from Florida in the 2019 class. Harvey brings a lot of speed to a skill position. Harvey clocked in at 4.41 in the 40-yard dash at a regional event for The Opening, in the same range as reported times for Milledge (4.46) and Williams (4.53).

Beyond the stopwatch, Harvey also proved productive on the field for Edgewater last season as a junior. He combined for more than 3,000 yards rushing and passing with 35 total touchdowns. He completed 99 of 155 passes for 1,689 yards with 15 touchdowns and rushed 133 times for 1,346 yards with 20 touchdowns. He helped his team reach the second round of the 7A state playoffs as the Eagles posted a 9-3 record. He reported a 4.4 weighted GPA entering his junior year.

Harvey landed a spot on the second team of the Orlando Sentinel’s all-area selections. The Orlando Touchdown Club named him as its Offensive Player of the Year.

Entering his senior season, Harvey already has been named to the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl Watch List.
