Episcopal Recruit John Rogers Commits To Virginia

The Virginia football team added its third commitment from the class of 2024 on Monday night. Episcopal High School’s John Rogers announced his decision to join the Hoos via social media.

Rogers first received an offer from UVA last month and has scheduled an official visit for the first weekend in June. He chose the Wahoos over offers from Army, Penn, ODU, and others. He recently had visited ACC schools like Virginia and Wake Forest as well.

This decision continues an early trend in the class of 2024 for the Hoos. All three commitments so far have come from state of Virginia athletes. Rogers, from Episcopal in Alexandria, joined Benjamin York from Lake Braddock in Burke and Ethan Minter from Thomas Dale in Chester. York and Minter are 3-star recruits in 247 Sports’ ratings, while Rogers has not yet received a ranking.

Playing at a small school, Rogers wears a lot of hats for EHS. He’s lined up at linebacker, defensive end, tight end, and receiver in his high school career. Episcopal went undefeated in the Interstate Athletic Conference last fall. Rogers also plays baseball and participates in track and field. He plays centerfield on the baseball team and is a triple jumper for the track team.

UVA has had success with players from Episcopal previously. Perris Jones and Elijah Gaines on the current roster both attended the school; Jones started games at running back last fall, while Gaines has been a valuable contributor on special teams. Logan Taylor started on the offensive line last fall too before electing to transfer. EHS fits the academic profile for Virginia and Rogers lists a 4.0 GPA. He has been elected school president for the upcoming year as well.

Virginia zeroed in on Rogers as a tight end recruit. At 6’5” and 210 pounds, his Hudl profile lists a 40-yard dash time of 4.56. With good athleticism shown in his multi-sport background, he projects as someone that can add weight and maintain the flexibility and movement wanted. The tight ends currently listed on the roster sit between 6’4” and 6’6” and between 225 and 252 pounds.

Rogers’ junior season highlights are below.

  1. Episcopal was Ed Carrington’s school many years ago if I recall correctly.
