The Virginia football team created a little recruiting momentum on Sunday with a pair of commitments joining the fold. Montino Williams Jr., a defensive back from Virginia, added to the in-state haul in the Class of 2025 when he chose the Cavaliers.

Williams selected Virginia over offers from James Madison, Old Dominion, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, East Carolina, and more. He visited ECU, ODU, and UVA this month before making his commitment to the Hoos. He’s the fifth prospect in the class from inside the state as he joined Dillon Newton-Short (Matoaca), Christopher Spence (Kempsville to Mt. Zion Prep Academy in Maryland), Isaiah Robinson (Trinity Episcopal), and Xay Davis (Collegiate). Newton-Short and Williams are teammates at Matoaca High School in Richmond.
Other commitments in the class include Jon Adair (Lipscomb Academy, Tennessee), Cole Geer (Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts), Bjorn Jurgensen (Bishop Moore Catholic, Florida), Isaiah Reese (Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire), Grayson Reid (Maret School, Washington D.C.), Donovan Robinson (Loyola Academy, Illinois), Justin Rowe (Asheville School, North Carolina), Willem Thurber (Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts), and Justin Zames (Berkeley Prep, Florida).
The Virginia 2025 class currently ranks as the No. 40 class nationally by 247 Sports.
A defensive back, Montino Williams Jr. joins Davin Chandler as players that committed this past weekend. At 6’2” and 193 pounds, Williams is another tall and versatile pick-up in the secondary. Most of UVA’s recent signees at the position match that mold.
If his high school production is any indicator, Williams could make an impact. According to MaxPreps.com, he had 36 tackles, 4 interceptions, and caused fumbles as a junior. He also posted 156 carries for 883 yards and 10 touchdowns plus 22 catches for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns on offense last season. Williams added 117 kickoff return yards as well.
Getting two defensive back commitments over the weekend helped address a position of need in the recruiting class. The Cavaliers will lose Antonio Clary, Elijah Gaines, Kempton Shine, and Kendren Smith from the secondary after this season (final year of eligibility). In the Class of 2024, Ethan Minter, Keke Adams, and Kevon Gray are the players currently listed as DBs so it was important to stack another group behind those freshmen for roster management purposes.
