The Virginia football team received more good news from the recruiting trail on Sunday with its third commitment two days. Sichan John, a defensive lineman out of Georgia, became the latest pledge when he chose the Hoos.
John announced his choice on social media.

John selected Virginia over offers from Georgia, Maryland, Boston College, Louisville, Appalachian State, Tulane, and more. He visited BC, Maryland, and UVA this month before making the call for the Cavaliers. With Davin Chandler and Montino Williams Jr. also committing on Sunday, the class has moved up to No. 38 nationally in the 247 Sports rankings.
This is the first dip into Georgia for the 2025 recruiting cycle, but it’s a state that has been successful for the Hoos in the past. Devin Clark (Marietta), Mekhi Buchanan (Allatoona), Caleb Hardy (Eagle’s Landing), Jaden Gibson (Rabun County), Chase Morrison (Roswell), Kevon Gray (Creekside), and Max Prozny (Starrs Mill) all came to the Cavaliers in the 2023 and 2024 classes. Buchanan, Hardy, and Gibson each earned some playing time last fall as true freshmen.
John joins that group out of Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia. He posted 48 tackles with 9 sacks last season per MaxPreps.com.
This commitment addresses the interior of the defensive line, which has featured Jahmeer Carter as a fixture since 2020. He’s back for his final season at Virginia this fall, while Michael Diatta, Andrew Williams, Bryce Carter, and Ben Smiley III are all seniors or graduate students that have played at tackle at some point in their career as well. Kam Butler and Chico Bennett Jr. are older EDGE players that will finish their eligibility this season as well.
At 6’2.5” and 290 pounds, John projects as someone that can help build the future depth up front. Anthony Britton (6’3”, 298, sophomore) and Jason Hammond (6’1”, 291, sophomore) both saw some playing time as true freshmen last fall, while Tyler Simmons (6’3”, 265, freshman) will try to do the same in the 2024 season. John adds the next piece behind that as the only defensive lineman currently committed for Virginia in the Class of 2025.
