Jim Harris Jr., 2025 Offensive Lineman, Commits To Virginia Football

Much like the summer heat wave continuing around Charlottesville, the Virginia football team stayed hot on the recruiting trail Monday. After securing three commitments in late June, UVA added another prospect to the fold on Monday. Jim Harris Jr., an offensive lineman out of Michigan, became the latest pledge when he chose the Hoos.

Harris announced his choice on social media.

Harris selected Virginia over offers from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Indiana, and more. He visited Cincinnati and UVA in June before making the call for the Cavaliers, who offered him in late May.

While the Hoos have picked up prospects from the neighboring region in Ohio, Illinois, and Pennsylvania recently, this is the program’s first high school commitment from Michigan in at least 20 years. Harris plays at Muskegon High School near Lake Michigan. The Big Reds have lost 3 or fewer games in every season since 2011, finishing 12-2 last fall on the way to the school’s seventh state championship. Fellow Muskegon O-Lineman N-Kye Wynn committed to Rutgers.

At 6’6” and 285 pounds, Harris projects as a likely tackle on the offensive line. His high school coach Matt Bolles told Bearcats Talk earlier this year that Harris has a frame that every college program covets at tackle. “High-hipped, small waist, super long arms, big hands, quick feet, hip bend, ankle flexion, and smart,” Bolles said.

Harris joins Nashville prospect Jon Adair (6’5”/265) as offensive line commits in the Class of 2025. That trend is important as UVA addresses a significant need on the offensive line in an effort to build the future roster up front.

The Harris and Adair duo comes behind three high school linemen in the Class of 2024 . Benjamin York (6’5”, 285) and Dane Wleklinski (6’6”, 280) signed as tackles, while Grant Ellinger (6’4”, 270) initially committed as an interior lineman. All three are listed as offensive linemen vs. tackle or guard as true freshman on the roster. Cole Surber (6’4”, 300) from the Class of 2023 is listed as a guard, but he was the only high school lineman taken in that class. Dane Steele (6’3”, 294) and Andy Lutes (6’3”, 242) are the only O-Linemen listed as sophomores on the current roster.

  1. Harris is a “good get” for Tony Elliott and appears to be a great fit for UVA! Hopefully Elliott will land more linemen in this class!
