While the 2024 season still is in play and December signing day is three months away for the Class of 2025, the Virginia football team picked up its first commitment from the Class of 2026 on Monday. Quarterback Ely Hamrick made the call for the Cavaliers following a visit this weekend.
Hamrick announced his choice on social media.

Hamrick selected Virginia over offers Kentucky, Appalachian State, and more. UVA offered in June after Hamrick attended camp in Charlottesville. He narrowed his choices down to the final three programs in August.
Hamrick played at IMG Academy in 2023. He had 1,244 passing yards and 18 touchdowns per MaxPreps.com. Ahead of his junior season, however, Hamrick returned to North Carolina where he starts for A.C. Reynolds near Asheville. The 6’5”, 218-pound quarterback opened the season with 682 passing yards and five touchdowns in the first three games this fall per MaxPreps.com. He had two rushing touchdowns in a game against Watauga as well.
The first commitment in UVA’s 2026 class, Hamrick carries a 3-star rating per 247 Sports. That service ranks him as the No. 30 player in the state of North Carolina and as the No. 64 quarterback nationally. Rivals tabbed him as a 3-star recruit as well and as the No. 24 prospect in North Carolina.
After signing no QBs in the Class of 2024 (Virginia took transfer Gavin Frakes in that cycle), the Hoos have now pulled in commitments from three quarterbacks in the 2025 and 2026. Cole Geer (Deerfield Academy/Deerfield, Massachusetts) and Bjorn Jurgensen (Bishop Moore Catholic/Orlanda, Florida) both have committed for 2025 as 3-star recruits. The early signing period opens on Dec. 4 for the 2025 class, a date moved up by the Collegiate Commissioners Association earlier this year.
That sets up a potential quarterback room of Anthony Colandrea (senior), Frakes (senior), Geer (sophomore or redshirt freshman), Jurgensen (sophomore or redshirt freshman), and Hamrick (freshman) in the fall of 2026.
Highlights for Hamrick can be found on his Hudl profile here.
Hamrick has good size, promising stats and some interesting prep experiences to accelerate his maturity as a potential leader. Now the big question…..Will UVA recruiters land some good linemen & quality skill players to complement EH’s potential???
Would love to see us land a five star, or even a four star.
