TheSabre.com Fan Friday: QB Talk As Kickoff Looms

With the Virginia football team closing in fast on kickoff, it wrapped up the training camp portion of the preseason this week and began to shift focus to preparations for Richmond, the season opening opponent. The Hoos host the Spiders on Saturday, August 31 at 6 p.m.

Fans hoping for news on the quarterback race, however, didn’t get starter news this week. UVA coach Tony Elliott said that no decision had been made yet between Tony Muskett and Anthony Colandrea, though he hinted at the idea that both players could play again this season. Muskett and Colandrea each started six games last fall, though that developed out of necessity with injuries to Muskett on two different occasions.

In those contests, Virginia put together a three wins. Muskett (6’2″, 213) posted 1,031 passing yards (93-147/63.3%, 7.0 yards per attempt), 6 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions plus 66 rushing yards with 1 TD. Colandrea (6’0”, 183) tallied 1,958 passing yards (154-246/62.6, 8.0 yards per attempt), 13 touchdowns and 9 interceptions plus 225 rushing yards. In other words, both were productive and both had some interceptions. Neither got to the winner’s circle often, though.

The possibility of a dual quarterback system led to some fan discussion this week as you’d expect. Here are some threads about the QB situation and some other hot topics with football season on the doorstep:
