TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday: Game Day Experience

August has arrived so it’s football month for Virginia fans! The Cavaliers open the season on Saturday, August 31 at Pittsburgh in a game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The home opener follows just six days later when William & Mary visits for a Friday night game at 8 p.m.

That means fans are starting to get excited about the games ahead. Before games actually start, however, there’s always some conversation about the game day experience. That idea led to some good exchanges in this thread on the football board. That included this post from user name ZPops:

Again, the whole thread linked here is a good read. What do you think? Has the game day experience improved at Scott Stadium? What would you do? Has the game day experience influenced your decision to attend or not attend a game recently? Share your thoughts on the message boards and in the comments section below.

And now it’s time for more Fan Friday at The Sabre. Let’s go!

Post Of The Week

For the post of the week, this post from 3NotchedHoo in a thread about the final moments against Auburn is a good one. You can read the whole thread here where fans talk about where they were and what they were thinking during the Kyle Guy shot, foul, and free throws.

Thread Of The Week

Poster MAluHoo shared a quick thought about the football team’s outlook this fall that sparked a good discussion. Read the whole thread here and some of the select posts below as well as this “50 Thoughts” article that talks about Tavares Kelly.

Question Of The Week

Poster 105A asked a basketball board question that prompted some good conversation this week. The question: “What are the chances that what [Mamadi] Diakite was told to work on in the pre-draft evaluations will conflict with the needs of the team?” 105A shared some thoughts, but the whole thread is an interesting read so click here.

  1. Game day experience is only going to get worse with parking lots closed at U-Hall (RIP) for construction and AFAIK no alternatives opened. Also the ridiculous idea of renting out JPJ to stupid things like used care shows on a Football Saturday.

  2. If you attend only one game this year make it FSU. If you are old enough to have been
in attendance for the first win over FSU (George Welsh era) the atmosphere was electric.
From the time the team ran onto the field until the final whistle, the crowd noise was such
that you couldn’t hear yourself think. This year is setting up for a repeat.
