TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday: ACC Network News & More

As a new sports season closes in, the launch of the new ACC Network is scheduled for next week on August 22. During the week, the ACC announced some new providers had signed up to provide the network. That included Charter/Spectrum.

Still, with the network launch just days away, some major providers in the Virginia region had not yet agreed to terms with the ACC/ESPN/Disney to carry the channel. That prompted an emailed letter from Carla Williams that is shared below in case you didn’t see it.

That’s obviously been a hot topic this week on the message boards. For other things on the minds of fans, it’s time to dive into TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday feature!

Post Of The Week

Poster BillNCary spotted a thread on Reddit that sorted college basketball teams by the number of ranked road wins this decade. Spoiler alert: Virginia has been really good this decade. BillNCary’s post (read the whole thread here) and the Reddit graphic that inspired it are below.

Thread Of The Week

On the basketball message board, poster G0H00SG0 started a thread about Mamadi Diakite by sharing some thoughts from Jon Givony at ESPN. That post and few others are below. You can read the whole thread here.

Question Of The Week

This week’s question comes from poster wdbwdb, who asked on the football board what were people’s “Favorite plays from last season?” For wdbwdb, the picks were Bryce Hall’s epic rundown of Miami’s Homer, Bryce Perkins “going Edwin Moses” (announcer’s expression) twice against Louisville, and Tim Harris closing out his career with an interception in the Belk Bowl. The whole thread is here where you can share your answers.

  1. One of the hidden unknowns until recently about the launch of the ACC Network is ACC content now available to stream online through the ESPN, such as ACC Network Extra and ESPN3 will no longer be available to subscribers of cable/satellite providers who don’t offer the ACC Network. That is so unfair, whether this was known three years ago when ESPN and the ACC collaborated to create the new network is unknown. My guess is they did but kept it secret.

While multi-billion dollar corporations slug it out, the fan is caught in the middle, as usual.
