TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday: The President Part II

During a video conference with media members this week, Virginia linebacker Charles Snowden fielded a question that noted how much his time at UVA resembled basketball star Malcolm Brogdon. The question noted that both players sounded similar with how they addressed questions and that they even had been given the same nickname: The President.

The question also asked if Snowden had aspirations to take his off-field work and awareness to a higher level similar to Brogdon. Snowden said “definitely” and there’s an article in The Washington Post that looks more closely at his growth away from football and his involvement away from the field. As for the Brogdon comparison, Snowden clearly appreciated the connection.

“Malcolm Brogdon is like the ideal Hoo so to be named in the same sentence as him to me is a huge honor and is extremely humbling,” Snowden said. “Seeing what he’s done in terms of his success with basketball and also his success with the Waterboys and stuff like that off the court, to see that you can be successful doing both – that right there, that’s the ideal career path for me. Malcolm Brogdon and Chris Long as well, playing similar positions and just being a football player, those two guys right there are two dudes I really look up to and try to model my athletic career but also who I am off the field because they really set the example. ”

With nicknames in mind, we put up a couple of threads on the football and men’s basketball message boards asking for fans’ favorite UVA nicknames through the years. The bulk of the answers are contained below and you can jump into those threads here and here with more suggestions. A couple that hadn’t been posted when these screen captures were taken include: $$ (Sean Singletary), Money Mase (Roger Mason Jr.), Demetrius “Pete” Allen, and Big Game Brandon Waddell (he made his Major League debut this month!).

And with that, let’s get rolling with the rest of TheSabre.com’s Fan Friday feature.
