TheSabre.com is celebrating its 25th Anniversary year! Originally VirginiaFootball.com and VirginiaBasketball.com, the site officially became a business and adopted its new name in 1998. As part of the 25-year celebration, The Sabre is introducing a “Friends Of The Sabre” incentives program.
Similar to the “First Team” concept in the site’s early days, the “Friends Of The Sabre” program will provide perks to members. These perks may include message board badges/icons, invitations to exclusive events (the first one is this Wednesday – more on that below!), highlighted friendship through frozen message board posts, podcast mentions, gift items/merchandise, and autographed photos depending on your membership level. The offerings may change or expand at any time and you must be an annual friend or an active monthly friend for six consecutive months to receive gift or merchandise items. The new “Friends Of The Sabre” program is part of the 25th Anniversary year and has been instituted by new ownership, which includes two University of Virginia alumni (site editor Kris Wright is one of the new owners). This makes TheSabre.com a fully independent site once again. In order for TheSabre.com’s future to be as bright as its past, we will need the support of fans more than ever. That’s where you come in with this program!
“Friends Of The Sabre” members will receive reward incentives (subject to change), but also will be supporting new updates on the site and will be directly supporting things like message board maintenance, Name/Image/Likeness opportunities for student-athletes, internship programs for current students, travel costs to postseason contests, potential future event costs, and more. Any and all donations help and this will be set up as a recurring gift option. Members can cancel at any time.
As mentioned above, the first exclusive event is this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and it is also a NIL opportunity for a current student-athlete. We have set up a virtual interview with Leon Bond III in a Zoom room. We will post an EDGE thread where you can submit questions and you will be able to ask questions via the chat function in Zoom as well as time allows.
Anyone that already signed up for the “Friends Of The Sabre” program prior to this incentives announcement will receive an invitation as will any new Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond friends prior to Wednesday. Some subscribers selected at random may also receive an invitation. This is a joint offering with Hook Sports Marketing so anyone that is a member of the 4819 Club through Hook will also receive an invitation to the event (you can join that club to support men’s basketball athletes here).
