Smith’s Score Propels Vikings To Title

The “Week In Review” is a weekly feature. It’s a look at how UVa’s recruits are performing throughout the 2012 season. In case you missed anything, be sure to check out the bottom of this report for links to previous weeks. Only two teams with Virginia-bound recruits were in action this past weekend, but both teams came away victorious.

Corwin “Turtle” Cutler, QB, Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA)

Cutler is recovering from surgery to fix a torn ACL, but Ocean Lakes defeated Hylton, 21-14, in the Division 6 state semifinals.  The undefeated Dolphins will now face L.C. Bird in the Division 6 championship game, which will be held at Scott Stadium at the University of Virginia this Saturday.

LaChaston Smith, LB, South Iredell (Statesville, N.C.)

LaChaston Smith’s 1-yard touchdown plunge with 19 seconds left gave South Iredell a 30-27 win over Carrboro in the Class 2-AA state championship. Smith, a linebacker recruit for the Hoos, had 159 yards rushing on 25 tries on the day.
