The 1 goal losses didn't kill UVA last year

It was the uncompetitive late season swoon where they were getting thrashed by mediocre UNC and Penn squads. There's been a lot of revisionist history that acts like UVA was that bad the entire way, and not just down the stretch. And because this season has started similarly to last year, people are acting like it's not progress; as long as they maintain their level of play and don't collapse like they did last time, progress will have been made.

There are bad performances, but no bad wins. Especially in this age of parity -- it's not 2005 when the best programs just had to show up to beat the also-rans. In today's game even the best teams have games against bad squads that seriously test them; Maryland almost lost to High Point last month.

Certainly the spring games were not inspired displays of UVA lacrosse to say the least. But at the end of the day it's better to be complaining about bad wins and good losses than it is to complain about bad losses (see again: UVA in the first half of last season vs. UVA in the second half of last season).
