True enough, but if you do not play and win you get no $$, so except

for the top players you have to play lots of tourneys and that probably means almost every week. Some players have family/friends helping with the cost. I know little about how much money there is in women's tennis, but I think it is much less than in men's tennis, except for the Slams and certain tourneys like Miami, where both men and women play and get paid generously. It is my understanding that women's tourneys do not pay very much and in fact very little unless you make at least the SF's in the lesser tourneys.

In DC's case with her success at Indian Wells and Miami, she is very close to becoming a top 25 or maybe higher player, so now is a crucial time in her tennis career. Playing a lot and winning and getting ranking points is very important to her . Tennis players are young and fit, so it is not all that physically demanding to play a lot.
