I kind of like Atlanta United certainly in League One

They would probably be competitive in the Championship - maybe not top 3.

they are the only club in MLS IMHO with the requisite technical skill and athleticism to do so although I have real questions about them defensively at that level.

The lower level championship teams and certainly League one are not that good - technically. they tend to play a very physical and direct brand of football (not all but most) that is os so typically English and, frankly, quite uninteresting.

MLS, over the past ten years, has made leaps and bounds forward in terms of quality of play and competitiveness. This has not been to the benefit of US Soccer as the league doesn't want to be deemed a selling or developmental league and therefore isn't offering enough first team opportunities for young american players. This is not unlike the dilemma that the English FA has faced with the Premiership and the English National Team although I do believe that the quality of the Championship (and the lower leagues) has improved with better funding in conjunction with pro-rel thus establishing a pipeline and much greater depth in the player pool.

College was actually relevant and effective before MLS but has steadily declined since and with the substantial improvement in USL is really at best a third rate option. It doesn't have to be but that is what it has become
