MLS Current policy Ironically helps other National Teams in the Region

It is a credible financial alternative to domestic leagues for good players that aren't yet ready to make the leap to Europe or don't want to leave the region. You have a host of good players from CONCACAF and even CONMEBOL countries that are getting well paid in the US and are playing in a competitive enough situation that they can improve, too. MLS money is better than Liga MX and virtually all of the leagues in North, Latin and South America.

On a related note, I believe Arena's insistence on using more MLS-based (including former MLS) players contributed to our failure to qualify. We were not good in any event but Arena had a somewhat selfish and egotistical reason for promoting MLS beyond his pure disagreement with Klinnsman and his approach.

For a host of reasons, I still believe the better US players are best served developmentally in going overseas - MLS won't guarantee enough opportunities for young players and second tier (USL, etc.) opportunities are not high enough quality yet from a competitive and training perspective.
