Boland will be a factor at BU , but BU was already a

top college tennis team that had won a Natty and also barely lost to us In the SF's, when we won it at Baylor by beating OU in the finals. Once TSK, CA, AR and LC left or graduated after the 2017 season, there was not much top level talent remaining for Boland's successor. IMO Boland's last 2/3 recruiting class (Lizen, Lord and Tsygura,Alhaqbani, etc.) that Pedroso inherited last year have proven to be much weaker than Boland's previous top 5 college classes and there are no top 10 players let alone potential NCAA champs in those classes.

I never really understood, why Boland took the USTA job and then left after one year to go back into college coaching at Baylor of all schools. I think that his USTA job was to find and then develop future American Grand Slam winners and do it quickly. At the time I thought He had almost no chance of actually succeeding, due to the lack of world class juniors in the USA, Maybe it was mostly for the rumored much better salary (probably double or triple his UVA pay) and a family connection in Florida. In any event had he stayed at UVA and coached last year, I seriously doubt he would have had a much better record than Pedroso's. Boland surely knew that the talent level he had on his/our last Natty winner in 2017 (AR, TSK, CA, and JCA was going to drop off drastically in 2018, so maybe that factored into his decision to leave.

Winning one but especially multiple Natty's in any sport is very rare. We were very fortunate to win 4 of them in tennis. The other top tennis teams Like USC, UCLA, WF, OSU, UF, Stanford, etc. were always going to be tough outs no matter who coached at UVA.

I am very encouraged by Pedroso's recruiting, IMO it is on or very close to the level that Boland consistently achieved over his last 10 or so years, when he won his Natty's and finished 2nd or made the SF's in several other years.
