The Rays have a ton of headwinds against their success


One is being in Florida where there are so many transplants who brought their rooting interests with them. Another is being in a division with the two 800-pound gorillas of the sport. And then there's that stadium. The Lightning have had to make Herculean efforts to build a fanbase, and having one of the sport's best GMs has helped.

Color me completely unsurprised if Nashville or Charlotte has a new baseball team in the next decade, courtesy of the lack of attendance at Rays games. The lease at the warehouse is up in 2027. The Rays are not staying in that awful place. The owner has been quoted as saying that if things all fell into place now, the earliest they could move into a new Tampa stadium is 2024, which means they have about three years to figure it out.
