Or relationship with Coach K. So I had an argument with a law professor

once about his statement that "police and fire fighters are underpaid for the risks that they take." I argued that's not possible given the free labor market - if they were underpaid, they would do something. Rather they are underpaid for the law professor to take those risks (especially compared to his cushy job), plus there are non-monetary (psychic) benefits for some to be firefighters and police (such as a long family line of service in those professions, community service orientation, etc.). Granted there are market inefficiencies in pro sports due to salary caps and revenue sharing (but not nearly the way there was before free agency - imagine what Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays would have made in their prime in this decade), but frankly pro athletes get paid way more than in any other occupation most could do, even if a career is short (and they can then move into a second career as well).
