Teams are allowed 11.7 equivalent scholies to spread over up to 27 "counters". The rest of the 35-player roster are walk-ons and not counters. My guess is that once the roster is sent in before the first game, the counters for the season are established. If a counter comes up lame and is certified as out for the season, he can be replaced with a walk-on (from the club team?) and can not be a counter by rule if we already have used up the 27 or used up the $$$ from the 11.7 equivalents. If a counter is certified as out for his career, he can be retained on scholie the next year but not counted against the numbers.
