I thought the process was kind of silly - but I believe the outcome a good one - I wanted a manager who had substantial experience coaching American players to compete against athletic teams with varying levels of technical skill (sounds a bit like MLS). That mix mirrors somewhat the mix in CONCACAF - with Mexico being probably the most technical side (ala Atlanta in MLS). As you go around the region that mix varies but it is a mix. i also think you need someone that can tactically adjust to the varying level of technical capabilities that you will get with American players and produce an effective team. Arena was very much in this mold - too dependent on MLS players in this last go round (a trait I am hopeful that Berhalter will avoid) - but adept at getting that mix to function effectively. Berhalter's record in the MLS was pretty solid - not the number one league in the world but, I believe, reflective of the region which is paramount. While I loved the idea of Tata - i think he took the ATL job with the understanding that he would have the core group of South American or European players with the technical ability to work in his system.
