Skepticism is fair in my opinion....

We lost Casey, Lynch, Sousa, Weber, and McCarthy from a team that didn’t make the postseason.

On the pitching side we’ll need Murdock to get all the way back from TJ surgery and take a step forward, Sperling to give us a healthy season, Vasil to be the real deal (heard positive reports there), and one or both of McGarry and Whitten to make a leap. It would help a ton if one of the JUCO transfers (Bales and Kosanovich) were able to step in and pitch at an ACC level from day one.

On offense we were bad last season. And we lost our two best bats in Weber and McCarthy who we only got 20 games from to begin with. I’d expect Simmons to have a little early rust but there’s no reason he can’t play at the level we need and expect from him. Morris and Tappen had positive freshman seasons and really good summers. They need to make the leap. After that there are players that showed flashes here and there, newcomers, and holdovers that are known quantities (Eikhoff) or have yet to make an impact (Allocca, Harrison, Weiller types).

We’ll need a little from each group to make a dent if we want to get back to the postseason.

From the newcomers, I’d expect us all to get acquainted with the names Gelof, Harris, Hamrock, and Kent this year.

What we get from Rivoli, Ortiz, Comer, and Richardson will go a long way towards defining the season too.

I’m actually pretty optimistic. I think we’ll be a little rough to start the year but be a good team in May. I think a postseason appearance is a fair and achievable goal. But I think we top out as a regional team.
