Have a 2009 Highlander, 155,000 miles

In general, it has been a solid vehicle for us. Only ding against it in terms of reliability is that a burst oil cooler hose left my wife stranded on the highway. This was the result of a design issue about which Toyota was aware because they issued a warranty enhancement (but strangely did not notify owners about the warranty enhancement) for this issue up to 150,000. Fortunately, ours failed at 147,000 miles. The other negative I would mention is the automatic transmission. It is sometimes (often) not very responsive the driver's desire for giddy up. Downshifts can be very slow. For example, my neighborhood dumps out onto a fairly busy road with a speed limit of 50 mph. If you want to get out of the neighborhood, sometimes you have to pull out with gusto. I've noticed that if I perform a rolling stop (I know, shouldn't be doing that), and then try to pull out and gain speed quickly, it absolutely refuses to downshift (even with the accelerator to the floor). Other than that, it's a good (if boring) family truckster.
