My "Blazing Saddles" story.

I saw "Cat Ballou" with Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin in 1965. In that movie, a character talked about how the Indians were the Lost Tribe of Israel.

Fast forward 10 years to watching "Blazing Saddles" at the base theater in Misawa, Japan. When Mel Brooks breaks into Yiddish, I'm nearly on the floor laughing. People looked at me and I just told them, "Sorry, inside joke." Fast forward to September, 1975, and I'm aboard the USS Horne, anchored off Ito, Japan for a port visit. In the Navy, the Command Duty Officer has to remain aboard ship while the Captain's not aboard. Since he couldn't leave the ship, he got to choose which movie would be shown in the officers' mess. He chose "Blazing Saddles". I went up to him and asked if he had seen it before. He said he hadn't. I told him, "You need to remember one thing for a certain scene, the Indians are the Lost Tribe of Israel." He looked at me like I was from Mars. After the movie was over, he came over to me and said, "You were right. That was one of the funniest scenes in the whole picture!"
