Good friend of mine wanted to be a realtor. He was a perfect fit IMO since he was very outgoing, tons of personality, and very charismatic. He did all of the course work and got his license and it was a complete failure - he just never was able to make it work.
If it was me I would tail a real estate agent that was well established. Then follow him/her for several years getting the lay of the land and do all his/her grunt work. Basically a working apprentice. Then when they retire, you could slip into their roll or try to go solo.
