I agree with rdm. If you going to play on center court against the best,
you better use everything in your arsenal to have a chance. There are a lot of programs even in the P5 that will never compete for a championship and they know it. The deck is stacked against many of these programs. If one of these bottom dwellers find a gem of a coach and begin to rise in the ranks, along comes one of the deep pocket schools to buy him away. Programs that are at least competitive are valid. Ones that have no chance and know it are simply out of their league.
Elite academic schools have always tended to look down their noses at student athletes on scholarship athletes. When these schools have heartedly fund and support their teams they fit rdm's comments.
