Possible answers

1) To get good college baseball players in front of the MLB scouts who are congregating in Arizona for spring training
2) To get good college baseball teams in front of spectators who are congregating in Arizona for spring training.

My sense is that college baseball doesn't draw particularly good TV ratings, and that pro baseball fans don't necessarily follow the college teams. So perhaps MLB was looking more towards the in-person viewer, rather than the at home viewer.

Finally, per MLB's DEcember release on MLB 4, the other fivr games are getting "highlight" and "Gamecast" treatment on mlb.tv.
