The average first round draft pick in the MLB still takes 4-6 years to

make it to the MLB... And that's sometimes as a part time MLB/minor league player. Only about 55 percent of 1st/2nd rounders actually ever even MAKE it to the NFL. So take the average MLB player's career earnings and multiply it by 55% right off the bat to get to the expected value. Kyler's odds of making his first NFL contract is almost 100% right now, unless he does something to catastrophically ruin his draftability (massive injury or off field issue).

MLB contracts are also very team friendly to start. You're under team control for a long time, and there aren't really holdouts and other methods of getting paid. MLB teams have ultimate control, even keeping guys in the minors just long enough to get that extra year of control. Then you get to arbitration, but only if you're in the top percentile of those in the majors at your same service time. You gotta be in the majors for 6 years before you get to free agency.

So unless he really makes it as a baseball player, he's not going to see much past that signing bonus (he has to live off that for 3 years) until he hits arbitration (if he's top 17% in playing time) or free agency.

Put it this way... Bryce Harper was the #1 overall pick in the MLB in 2010. He made it to the majors FAST. And it took him 6 years after the draft to match what #11 pick JOSH ROSEN got in guaranteed money on his first contract (5 year deal, all guaranteed). Rosen could get cut next week and he made $17mm... By the end of 5 years, he'd have made about the same as it took Harper to make in six, and Harper is considered one of the top players in the league... Sure, he's about to get paid huge money, but up until now, even as a top player in the MLB, he didn't make what guys in the mid first round in the NFL get (particularly QBs).
