I guess I am not familiar enough with Andre 3000's "art"

The songs I'm familiar with don't seem worth protecting by only playing full versions. And that's not a criticism - I like a good pop, hip-hop or rap song as much as the next guy and enjoy creative sampling of other people's music - but the stuff I'm familiar with simply isn't high art by any stretch. Prince would have a much better position on only wanting to do full songs, maintain creative license, not wanting to be too commercialized, and all that. He's also a good example of someone taking a SB halftime show and elevating it into something more artistic than just a ham-fisted medley of greatest hits (though I'll admit to conscious bias on this).

And yeah, Purple Rain is pretty cheezy!
