You are only arguing about timing, not the eternal character of an artist


Young U2 wouldn't do the Super Bowl. Aging U2 whose demographics match up to NFL audience did. Same with Prince, Flea, will.i.am, etc. Dylan wouldn't let his music be licensed for ads, until he did.

It is not like Andre 3000 refuses to perform except when he can do long form work true to his 'art'. He frequently lends himself out for cameo collaborations on other rising artist's tracks. It seems to me he cares more about building an acting and merchandising career right now than trying to make new music. He is evolving just like all artists and what he will or won't do to connect with audiences is going to evolve too.
