So after the Pitt game, my 8 yo looks up and asks me:

"Dad, if someone jumped from outside the 3 point-line and dunked, how many points would that be?"

Aside from A) my tremendous joy that my son is thinking about the nuances of basketball, B) the realization that his ability to look for similar arcane loopholes could result in a long and fruitful career in business, law, or another similarly shady enterprise (I kid, I kid!), AND C) setting aside the impossibility in physics associated with the act,

Would that be 2 points, or 3 points? I'm assuming it would be 3, since many players shooting a 3 jump over the line and into 2 point territory as they are shooting the ball. Since the point of takeoff is what designates the point value, is there another rule regarding touching the rim as part of the act of releasing the ball on a shot i.e. a dunk, that would conflict with this and rule the shot worth 2 points?

I do think we need clarity soon, as it is only a matter of time before Jay Huff does this.
