Brief report on big win over UNC. First, sorry

About wrong posts about Blumberg and Goetz not playing. When I got there I asked a Cville couple, who go to all home matches,They said Ryan would not play and probably should not have last weekend. I asked 2 UNC fans and both said Blumberg would not play. One said he might play doubles.

In any event it really was as close as the 4-3 score indicates.

The way the courts are laid out, you can most easily watch 1,3, and 5, which is what I mostly did. After losing doubles I thought we were in big trouble, but GR at 4 and AL at 6 jumped out to big first set leads and eventually won our first two points. That was huge. I have no idea why BN played so poorly, which seemingly never happens. I kept thinking he would make a comeback, but he just kept missing open shots whenever I watched. Before the match I thought BN Would be a sure win for us. When he lost (6-0, 6-2) it was 0-2, but then AL and GR finished and it was tied 2-2, with HW ahead at #3, but RG

At 5 and CS at 1 were losing, so once again it didn't look good for us. Then HW won in two close sets and we led 3-2, with both CS and RG going to 3rd sets,we needed one of them, but RG and CS got down early and RG lost 3-6 in the third set, but CS made the winning comeback, although it took 4 match points and the first and last were on deciding points as I recall. At 5- 3 and serving CS double faulted on the first deciding point. Then CS had to break Blumberg, while leading 5-4 to get the win. CS got up love 30 and then 15- 40, so he had 3 match points. CS promptly lost 2 points on unforced errors so it was another deciding point. Blumberg netted an easy forehand, a very rare thing for him as his forehand had been fantastic all day.
CS was clutch at the right times, Blumberg almost won and probably should have.

WF nearly lost. NCS kind of gave away the deciding doubles match after two match points on serve. NCS was up in two singles
Matches, but lost both.

Tomorrow will probably be close once again with doubles
Being crucial. I think we may be able to win 3 singles, but 4 is very, very unlikely, even though we did it today. WF's top 2 Gojo and Chrysochos were in the NCAA singles finals
last year. Botzer is very strong at #3. We probably need at least one win at 1 or 2 if we are going to win.
