I understand the concern...that without 85 men's schollies to counter


a lot of money losing women's sports programs would go the way of the buffalo. But the simple fact of the matter is that football is an ENTIRELY different animal than any other collegiate sport. Men's basketball included.

There's no other sport that requires a remotely similar roster size, and there's no other sport that comes anywhere close to generating comparable revenues. FBS football already doesn't have an NCAA sanctioned championship...if we can figure out a system where the guys are getting paid and essentially treated as part-time employees with a chunk of their "salary" paying for their education as an added bonus, then I think the argument could be made football shouldn't count against Title IX.

Of course, schools could choose to ditch their women's lax programs, but that would bring about a major PR hit IMO. Most would be better off creating a men's team than ditching the women's team.
