It takes time for kids to adjust to higher levels of play. He’ll probably slowly increase in confidence and aggression as he becomes more settled in. Working brain slows feet (read in Mr. Miagi voice)

And I definitely agree with not continually harping on him to be more aggressive. My father was over the top with never ending tips and advice, including the comparison with other teammates. Made me miserable.

If he’s up for additional practice- and it really is driven by him- then extra work will increase confidence and have benefits such as less passive play.
