I was rooting for the French to finally win one, but Ala was going

to likey lose contact again on the final climb. Per timing data (not always accurate in mountains), he didn’t appear to be making significant progress back to lead chase group on downhill. And he was burning everything. Even if he made up 2:00 on downhill (I think he’s good for 30-60 seconds, but 2:00 big ask against that group), could he stay with Thomas, K, and Buchmann up another bump? With Bernal holding steady ahead of them. Who knows if yellow would be worse off after another 20 miles. Regardless, Bernal loves tomorrow’s short high mountain stages. Sadly looks like the Sky/Ineos empire will win another Tour.

Was an incredibly heroic last week for the puncheur, but his loss of yellow seemed inevitable when he fell off G’s initial move today. You know you’re in trouble when you’re on Porte’s wheel early. 😬

Chapeau Julian! 🇫🇷
