I don't think it's necessarily small ball, it's versatility and outside

shooting that wins games in the NBA and college now. There are still plenty of Cs and PFs making a good living in the NBA, they're just changing their games. Just as a recent example, Brook Lopez never was a 3 point shooter, but when he went to Milwaukee after being castaway from both the Nets then the Lakers, he added that to his game and re-made himself into a coveted player (to the tune of 4 years, 52 million, when before that, he was seen as an asset only as an expiring contract). You see the same with other bigs in the league, or with a different kind of big being coveted. 3 point shots and layups - that's what teams like Houston and Golden State preach. And more and more teams are going that route. The days of mid range jumpers are gone. What does Huff do? He shoots 3 pointers and dunks (layups to an extreme).

Granted, Huff has a hard time chasing smaller 4s and 5s and playing the pick and roll, but if he can at least do it at an average level, his offensive versatility is hard to match.
