Ok, somebody explain this to me. (Big tech is watching/listening!)

The other day my wife was at our friends' house. Friend is planning for her son's upcoming birthday party, and has had zero luck securing a bounce house from the only couple of local places she knows about. They spent time talking about it, and Friend showed Wife her searches on her phone (Friend's phone, not Wife's phone).

Friend and her husband are very non-techy. No Alexa or Echo in their house, no Facebook. Only tech they have is their cell phones.

My wife and I don't have any of those devices either, though we both have Facebook pages, and have cell phones.

Roughly 6 hours after Wife was at Friends' house, Wife starts seeing ads for bounce houses on her Facebook page. She hasn't done any online searches for bounce houses in more than 2 years.

What exactly triggered those ads to start appearing within hours of her conversation with Friend? Is FB somehow capturing data via the mics on the cell phones? I can't think of any other possible way for Wife to suddenly receive targeted ads like that.

What say you, Corner folks?
