My parents got married in Brooklyn that August 16. The hurricane....

.....messed up their plans for a brief honeymoon. My mom says they were supposed to go to the Homestead (seems somewhat implausible to me because my father was a student at UVA Law and my mom had accepted a teaching job in Charlottesville, but maybe a relative had given them some money), but the hurricane washed out the roads and she says they wound up in a motel somewhere in the vicinity of New Baltimore, Virginia.

I guess that sort of fits the theme over later years: Because their anniversary fell in mid-August, often we were on a family vacation on that day and quite a few times we found ourselves in rural Canada with the only restaurant around being a McDonald's. It's still a running joke in our family about getting McDonald's to cater my parents' anniversary.

My uncle still grumbles about my parents getting married the weekend of Woodstock because he wanted to go, although my mom and my aunts have all pointed out multiple times that their parents never would have let him.
