My guess is he's a first-round pick at this point...

...and you don't (usually) turn down that kind of life-changing money to go to college. I can't say I'd blame him if he did. Then again, Vandy seems to get guys who throw in the mid-90s to turn down the big money to come there, and while I'm biased, I think UVA + Charlottesville is a lot better deal than Vandy + Nashville. :)

The one case that does come to mind is Jack McGeary -- the Nats drafted him and he was viewed as an almost impossible sign (went in the 6th round, though he was an upper-first-round talent), but they signed him by allowing him to attend Stanford in the off-season and start his baseball year late during his first 4 years as a pro. He made the right call, as he got his Stanford degree AND the money, and turned out not to be a very good pitcher. Retired at 25 with a career ERA over 6.
