Job seeking advice for a Chemistry grad.

Friend's son just graduated with a bachelors degree in Chemistry this past summer. Since I barely passed Chem in HS, I unfortunately have little knowledge of the industry, no contacts, and no great advice on how to go about a job search.

As I understand it, he's getting a bit discouraged, not having much success going the Indeed route for searching, and much of what he's finding is wanting grad degrees and/or years of experience. School doesn't seem to offer much help for career placement, as many of his classmates just went straight to grad school, which is not his desire at this point. His research was in the polymer area, but again I have little understanding of the industry.

He's been looking around here in Hampton Roads and Richmond, has a desire to head towards NC (particularly CLT, but Triangle area is fine too), but is willing to relocate just about anywhere. He's a Hokie, but don't hold that against him. He's a good personable kid, hard working, and understands he's starting at the very bottom work and money wise. He just can't seem to get that first foot in the door, and will be just fine once he does.

Any advice I can pass on to him, since I'm of little help? Any avenues you would recommend beyond using Indeed and going to some Co specific websites?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
