Last night made me a convert to KFTM

I watched the 2014 natty where we won on PK's but I didn't watch any other matches that season. I typically only watched US world cup matches, so knew little about soccer. I thought that deciding it on PK's was stupid, but those were the rules, and so we played by the rules and won.

In 2017 I became a soccer ref and work mostly mid-upper level travel soccer matches from U14-U19. I also have watched much more soccer than I had back 5 years ago, so I have more appreciation for the game.

The game we were playing in the 2nd OT last night didn't bear much resemblance to the game we played for the first 90 minutes. We were totally out of gas. The players are in shape, certainly, but that's a ton of running. Yes, GG could have subbed more, like GT did. After 110 minutes, though, the game is much more likely to be won by a fluke bounce. It wasn't just our guys, but the GT guys were also going down with cramps. That's not soccer any more.

Back in 1989 we played 4OT in crappy weather and ended up with co-champs. Letting it go 2 OT's and then to KFTM makes sense to me now, whereas it didn't in previous years. Yes, I don't like the result from yesterday, but I felt that GT came and played, and we had to reach deep down twice to equalize and we did. We then made our first 6 kicks in a row. GT just happened to make 7. They deserve it. We'll get #28 some other time. Super proud of the guys yesterday.
