I played rugby and basically if you weren't the captain, the ref ignored


you unless he was warning you or calling a foul. But more importantly, as a player you generally knew not to engage the ref and let your captain do the talking for you. And when he did the talking, it was generally done in a very reserved, respectful manner.

Have always wondered why soccer didn't follow these same traditions, especially since rugby arose from soccer.
