I hope nobody interpreted my earlier posts on Thai's ranking...


to mean that I'm not a fan. If you go back to the time that Thai Son was a Hoo, I used to say he had as much potential as any Hoo I'd ever seen play. I meant it then and still do. I used to love to watch him play. At that time, he had a pretty big problem with getting down on himself after a couple of unforced errors, but I'm confident he has fixed that by now. He fixed it to a great extent before he won the natty.

I just think it's a gigantic hill to climb to top 100 (much tougher, IMHO, than for the women) for any player who does not have either a big serve or who has lots of power in his groundstrokes...more than does Thai.

As always, I'll be more than delighted to see him reach that level, but I remain a doubting Thomas.
