The XFL season minimally overlaps baseball. Ends in April...

....which also avoids competition with the Stanley Cup Playoffs. (The NBA playoffs are not an issue in DC!) I'm not trying to suggest that will ensure them more support than past spring leagues, of course, but it's probably a good thing they went for a shorter season. The USFL played an 18-game regular season that ended in June, so the playoffs ran into July. Imagine how hot it must have been attending late-season games played outdoors at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The XFL season is to end April 12 and the playoffs are to end two weeks later. That makes a lot more sense than a longer season. No doubt it also helps for the teams playing in MLS stadiums because it reduces the overlap in their seasons.

I find it hard to see the XFL making anywhere near the splash the USFL made in its first season, but I guess maybe that's not a bad thing. Of course, the USFL was best known for some rogue owner who came on board during the league's second season. I wonder whatever happened to that guy.
