Boland consistently recruited better than anyone else except probably
for Peter Smith at SC for about 10 years all the way up until Boland's last recruiting class that Pedroso inherited in 2018. The fact that the 2 top recruits (Ross and Lord) have not become top 5 or 10 college players, as seemingly always happened in Boland's previous classes has hurt recent teams.
Boland typically had 2 or maybe even 3 top 10/15 players on the same squad in terms of talent including 2 NCAA singles winners who played for 4 years. after watching the talent at WF in recent years and this past Saturday, I have begun to wonder if Tony Bresky's leaving UVA might have hurt us and our recruiting more than some (including me) thought at the time. Many of Boland's players have had and/or are still having some lower level pro success, which few college players ever have. For all I know maybe Boland knew that his last class was not up to his usual standards and it could have been a reason why he "strangely" left UVA after winning his 4th Natty in 2017 for that USTA job in Orlando.
