2017-18 ACC bylaws on conference tournament winner

Section III-2. Conference Championship.
a. Championship. There shall be a single-elimination basketball tournament held under the direction of the Men’s Basketball Committee and the winner shall be the Conference Champion. Details for the conduct of the Championship will be contained in a participant’s manual prepared by the Championship Manager. Dates and sites of the Conference Championship will be selected by the athletics director and faculty athletics representative and announced
from the Conference office.

c. Automatic Qualification. The winner of the Conference Basketball Championship will earn the Conference’s automatic qualification to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. Should the Conference Championship not be held or completed, the highest seed remaining in the Championship after the most-recently completed full round of competition will be the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. If the Conference Championship has not started,
the number one seed will be the automatic qualifier. (Adopted: 10/2015)

So in summary, the winner of the tourney is the Conference Champion. If the tourney is not completed, the AQ is the highest seed remaining.

So:
1) unless the bylaws changed on this point in the last 2 years. OR
2) unless the "participant's manual" says that the highest remaining seed becomes the tournament champion ...

THEN

* Per the bylaws, FSU did not need to be given the stupid trophy; AND
* The people who run the ACC are bad at making decisions (as if we needed more evidence for that)

None of this is terribly important, in or out of context, but anyway...
