A few guesses

People infecting family members / those they live with

Essential workers (grocery clerks, takeout, delivery, Heath care workers, etc., anybody who can’t work from home)

Subways/mass transit are still running bc the above have to get to work

Living in NYC means coming into contact with a lot of people daily. Current measures have reduced that severely, but not to zero.

Also worth noting, a reasonable goal is not a zero transmission rate, but keeping the number below 1.

I think this is the key week. If things like hospitalization rate don’t drop, then measures probably need to get more severe.

Not really apropos, but I continue to be surprised by how many people (Especially, to be frank, mostly on this very board) are looking at misleading measures like case rate, without looking much, if at all, at testing rate or other relevant context. I wish those people who are doing that would stop, but I suspect they won’t.

Bad and misleading uses of data has no cure...
